Region 10 hosts Caregivers Summit and Retreat
Are your hands so full with caregiving tasks that you cannot imagine ever taking time away? Help is on the way! Region 10 LEAP-Community Living Services is pleased to announce the 2015 Caregiver Summit and The Retreat, scheduled for April 15 at Montrose United Methodist Church (19 S Park Avenue in Montrose).
This year’s thoughtful, collaborative event honors and educates community caregivers, with an emphasis on tools designed to improve communication with the person you care for. Our 2015 speakers, Sue Hansen and Laura Wayman, have first-hand experience as family caregivers. Ms. Wayman, known as “The Dementia Whisperer,” is a world-renowned speaker who will help the audience appreciate the good days and better understand the not-so-good days. Breakout sessions include Essential Conversations, The Validation Model, Powerful Tools for Caregivers, and the transition from home care to home health and hospice. A pamper room is also provided for those participants who just need some “down time.” Lunch and morning refreshments will be provided.
Check in begins at 8:30 a.m., and the event starts at 9:30; pre-registration is required and can be done on line at www.region10.net or by calling 970-249-2436. The registration deadline for the Summit is April 8, and the Cost is $10 per person.
For many family caregivers, attendance at the Caregivers Summit depends on finding help with your loved one so that you can take time away. We understand this, and this year’s Caregivers Retreat is a separate event hosted this year by Hilltop Day Haven. Care and supervision will be provided by Volunteers of America, with lots of fun activities and a special lunch catered by The Crossroads Assisted Living to ensure that our special guests have a wonderful day. For those people who are not able to attend The Retreat, Region 10 will provide in-home respite care.
