 Adult Income and Medical Support Programs
Adult Income and Medical Support Programs
The State of Colorado provides financial grants to low-income aged, blind and disabled persons to assist them in meeting basic living costs and to pay for funeral and burial costs. These programs are administered by the County Departments of Health and Human Services and include the following: Aid to Needy Disabled (AND) and Aid to Blind (AB) Programs; Aid to Needy Disabled Medically Correctable Pilot Project ·Old Age Pension (OAP) Basic Grant Program; Colorado Supplement Programs; Burial Assistance Program; Old Age Pension - Supplemental Security Income Assistance Project; Old Age Pension Employment Pilot Project; Old Age Pension Dental Program; Adult Medical Assistance Programs. Midwest Colorado Mental Health Center
Provides outpatient mental health services to the residents of Montrose, Delta, Gunnison, Ouray, San Miguel, and Hinsdale counties of Western Colorado. The array of services includes: Outpatient mental health and substance abuse counseling; consultation and education; 24-hour emergency services; involuntary hospitalization; school based programs; intensive family intervention; and employee assistance programs (EAPs).  Other Food Assistance Programs
Colorado Food Stamp Program
The Colorado Food Stamp Program provides assistance to low-income individuals and families of any age who need help with purchasing food. Applications are taken at the county departments of social services. The county worker will interview applicants and determine the household eligibility for benefits. If eligible, the applicant will be provided with a Quest card that can be used to purchase groceries at any participating grocery store or other retailer. Commodity Supplemental Food Program
Another food assistance program for which individuals over the age of 60 may be eligible is the Commodity Supplemental Food Program. In Region 10, eligibility is determined at the Mexican American Development Association (MADA) office in Montrose. Persons in any of Region 10’s counties may apply here. If determined eligible, participants receive a monthly food package that contains various food products such as canned fruit and vegetables, dry goods, cereal, juice, dried beans or peanut butter, evaporated and non-fat dried milk and cheese. Please contact MADA at 970-249-4774 for further information or to make an appointment for eligibility determination.
 
Meal Call
A Web-based organization to assist in locating local Meals-On-Wheels and other meal delivery and congregate meal services for senior citizens, nation-wide.

Region 10 Area Agency on Aging
Volunteers provide the backbone for many of the organizations and agencies that provide services in Region 10 through Older Americans Act funding. Many older adults would like to enhance their retirement years by using their talents and skills in service to others. Contact any of the Region 10 Service Providers or County Councils on Aging for further information about volunteer opportunities with each program. Examples of volunteer activities include: assist with serving at the meal sites; drivers needed for home-delivered meals; concerned citizens to serve on advisory committees and councils; volunteer drivers for transportation services; answering phones and taking messages.
